Time May Change Me, But I Can’t Change Time

Hey world,

Today, we are discussing how Raina has changed throughout the novel. We will be giving before and after pictures of a certain way Raina has changed throughout the book. Feel free to give your thoughts on our pictures.

In these pictures, they show how Raina was at the start of the novel and at the end. At the start, she needs all the products for braces and other beauty products to help her get through school and feel a little less self-conscious then without. At the end, all the stuff she needs for her teeth is a toothbrush and toothpaste. She doesn’t need all the other stuff, because she learned that being yourself is the best way to be and learned that she didn’t need all that beauty products/orthodontist stuff (since her braces were finally taken off).

In the before picture you see how hard Raina used to try and fit in. She was extremely worried about wearing the right clothes, and fitting in with the people around her. Makeup is a concern, and there are also several mirrors. Raina a lot of time worrying about changing herself, and the mirror becomes her worst enemy. She sees herself as a nerd, and a metal mouth every morning, and this gives her a really negative out-look. In the after picture she is wearing a t-shirt and jeans, and she is smiling! I also took a picture in the sunlight, to represent her letting the sunshine into her life. With her new friends she can be herself, and they are okay with it.

What lesson did Raina learn after leaving her old “friends?”

Margaret- I loved the ray of light in your second picture. I dunno if that was intentional or not but it really is kinda symbolic

Thanks glad you liked it, and yeah it was intentional. 🙂
